2010 Remembered As The Year Of Success For Christmas Parties
Article by Marie Coles
2010 may not be remembered in most people’s minds as a particularly significant year, but for most Christmas party attendees it has been a good year for the annual Xmas party. Even despite the recession, people have come together at Christmas to enjoy the festive season, showing that no amount of cut backs can stifle the Christmas spirit!
2010 has been a difficult year for most, with many struggling in the UK. Yet, many have shown ‘Christmas spirit’ this year, not letting the problems of 2010 get them down during the Christmas period. All over the UK, corporations, villages, charities and trusts have come together to celebrate in union as a community.
Everyone made a substantial effort at their 2010 Xmas party, with many turning heads with their costumes at their themed party. A UK based Carer organisation drew attention at their 2010 Xmas party winning five Oscar nominations at the Oscar Christmas party they attended. Many confirmed they will be attending next year. Could it be the wine? The food? Or the awards?
It was not only corporations that enjoyed the festive season with a Christmas party, but organisations and villages. The Young Football Supporters crimbo party hosted by an FC football league, created a fun packed event for its young football supporters. Coaches, young supporters and families came together at this event to enjoy games, entertainment and the bouncy castle – a fun packed event for all the family! Other fun packed crimbo parties for all the family have been hosted in various venues throughout the UK, including village halls in Wales.
In the biggest cities in the UK, party organisers have had a massive surge in businesses, from small to large, wanting to attend an annual Christmas or New Year’s party. By November 2010, many venues were completely sold out for Birmingham based Corporate Christmas Party Organisers. Could this mean a revival of the annual office party at Christmas?
Certainly, it could be. With another hard year ahead, many CEOS want to show their gratitude to their employees for their hard work throughout the year. And an ideal way is through the Xmas party. Communities and organisations have also demonstrated their ‘Christmas spirit’ as they continue to celebrate the season despite economic problems.
Even though 2011 is set to be no better financially with VAT rises already in place, at the end of a busy year, at least you’ll have the Christmas party to look forward to at the end of 2011! As it looks like that the annual Christmas party is set to stay!

The Office Christmas Party – 10 Top Tips for its Survival
Having worked tirelessly all year, it is time to let off steam and live it up at the office Christmas party. Although it is the season to be jolly, a few of us ordinarily rational souls are apt to go just a bit too far by downing vast amounts of alcohol, flirting outrageously with the management and frolicking with gay abandon on office desk tops or on pub tables. This felicitous event can sometimes be a bit of a social minefield, but with a little restraint, it is possible to have a fantastic evening whilst keeping your dignity intact. The worst thing you may have to suffer is a hangover.
Here are 10 Top Tips for Enjoying The Christmas Party Without Remorse
Take Care When Dressing - be aware of the dress code for the evening’s festivities. For the ladies, make sure hemlines are not too short, nor necklines too exposing. For the men, check that ‘smart casual’ includes jeans and trainers.
Make a timely Arrival - It’s no fun being the first or last person to arrive.Try to arrange a meeting time with one or several colleagues, that way you will all arrive together. There is no ‘fashionably late’ when it comes to the office dinner dance.
There may not be a free bar – so take cash. Not all businesses supply funding for the whole evening’s entertainment. There might only be a glass of wine with your dinner.
Drink aware – Of course it’s tempting, but try to abstain from mixing your drinks. That old adage ‘never mix grape and grain’ speaks the truth, so either drink just wine or spirits or only beer. Being kind to yourself by having soft drinks as well, and most importantly water throughout the evening will help reduce the alcoholic effects.
Be careful what you say – Too much alcohol = a loose tongue and you might let a work colleague know exactly what you think of them! Try to stay in control. Christmas is the season of goodwill – not the time for the unvarnished truth. Use the occasion to get to know your colleagues better (but not too well….)
Be wary of romance – You are obliged to work with your colleagues all year, and although it believed that over a third of couples meet during working hours, the Christmas party is not the place to make a move on someone you have secretly admired. Consider how embarrassing it will be when back at your office desk with them the next working day.
Networking is good - but holding senior managers captive is most definitely unacceptable.
Don’t talk business all evening - you could risk being labelled as the office bore. Be charming and alluring and get to know your colleagues more intimately, whilst remembering to listen and appear interested.
Have your transport home organised – this way, you’ll not leave the party with someone you don’t know very well or find yourself in a difficult situation. A clever little strategy that can make all the difference at the end of the night.
Above all, have a ball - enjoy the party and let down your hair. Following these tips will make sure that your dignity remains intact!

Question by *♥♫B♫♥*: Office X-Mas Party Gift Ideas or Under?
My office christmas party is coming up on dec. 12th..
Every year everyone brings a gift and we play a game where everyone picks a gift off of the table and then decides to keep or exchange it with a previously opened item.
Here’s the catch. Our business logo is WEC so the gifts this year HAVE to start with a W, E, or C
Any appropriate ideas?
Thanks so much!
