Website Backup Through Ftp
Web owners certainly need their websites to have backups. There are various security threats and reasons that only a website backup can counter. A website backup can be obtained through different options; in the following paragraphs we shall discuss a very good website backup option which is FTP backup option.
A File transfer protocol is a networking protocol that’s mostly utilized to transfer files at a server host into a target location through networks based on TCP/IP just like the internet. FTP software like filezilla & aceftp allow users to access a website’s FTP server; this file transfer access essentially allows you to either download or upload the files to your website.
Most hosting provider today allows FTP access to your website giving considerable opportunities to make use of FTP program. A lot of free trial versions of FTP programs are available; on this state the product is completely functional though for a limited time only. Typically a professional version of an FTP client costs around , which is a good price taking into consideration the product’s benefit. If that is unaffordable for you then it is still perfectly fine to try trial versions of the program.
To start creating a website backup through FTP you must first find out your web host if it does allow ftp access. For example I have a website that is hosted on godaddy, this web hosting prvider employs cpanel hosting on their domains that allows FTP access. After I have confirmed that my website does allow FTP access, I need to start finding myself an FTP client to use. You can download free FTP programs or trial versions like WS_FTP ipswitch to start creating website backup.
When connecting to your website trough an FTP rest assured that your connection with your web host is protected and authenticated with a password. To access your website files, the FTP program will ask you the sign in with your FTP username and password that you had set when you availed the domain.
FTP program are very handy in creating off-site website backup files.
With good compatibility and good enough security, you will find that FTP website backup is the perfect solution when you need one on the fly though outside that, FTP programs are outclassed by other website backup software in regards to regular automated backup for the long term. FTP backup is a good enough website backup option until you buy yourself a better website backup program.

Question by risktaker60: I am switching to web-based Quickbooks but my backup file is too big. How do I back up the past 3 years?
My file includes 7 years of data. How do I only send them the past three years of data?

Answer by Stephen C
If your file size is larger than 80 Mb, you will only be able to import lists (names, items, accounts, etc.) into QBOE. Unfortunately, there is no way to truncate your file by date. Depending on which version of QB’s you are using, you can try an archive and condense or file cleanup (File>Utilities). Generally speaking, the results will not be spectacular. If you are using QB2007, a better option would be to make a ‘portable file’ (File>Backup>Portable) and then restore it. This will make a significant reduction in the size of the file without losing any data. If you’re not using QB2007, you might consider getting a trial version so you can make this happen. You can get a trial version here…

How to Recover Linux Data And Retrieve Precious Data
These days, many users are switching their operating systems from Windows to Linux. Even, some are opting for a dual boot system by installing Linux alongside Windows to use a bit closely before completely migrating to Linux. The reason is pretty simple. Linux is new and with various new features. Apart from this, the operating system is undoubtedly the most frequently updated operating system than that of its other counterparts. But, one thing is quite true that no operating system is entirely free from any loose holes. Moreover, if it is not right to term it as loose hole, still, there are instances when the OS failed to match with the user expectations. Among such troubled occasions, Linux data recovery applications can be immensely useful in recovering your valuable data back.
You may encounter a number of instances of data loss in your Linux system. The reason can be a simple data deletion to harsh system crash. Some of the mostly encountered Linux data loss situations are listed as below:
Accidental/intentional deletion
Accidentally formatting the hard drive while resolving some Linux disk error
Re-installation of the operating system by formatting the drive or volume
File system corruption
Operating system malfunction
Any software/hardware contradiction resulting in the the crashing of the Linux system
Under any of the above situation, your valuable data from the Linux drive or volume either gets lost or becomes inaccessible. Still, you can restore the data back, if you have taken any backup of your data recently. If there is no recent backup available or the restoration process results any error, you need to look for some other data recovery Linux methods.
One soothing fact about data loss is that unless the data in the drive is overwritten by some other piece of data, it never gets lost permanently. So, if you can take strict care of the troubled Linux drive or volume against any case of overwriting, all your seemingly lost data can be definitely retrieved by running any Linux recovery software etc.
These Linux data recovery utilities have powerful algorithms to dig into the hard drive and recover the data efficiently. All the features of these recovery applications are read-only in nature and you need not have to worry about the safety of your data.

Why backup a website ? How Important it is to Backup a website
When doing an important matter, we see to it that we always prepare for a worst case scenario. When faced with an adversity it is human nature that urges us to take action and protect ourselves. Security in every sense is something everyone needs; In our society we always strive to achieve financial and social stability. We take precautionary measures in securing ourselves to avoid situations wherein our business, financial stability etc. are in danger hence in a case of an online business we make backups of our data and websites.
It makes me laugh when I remember it, during the era of floppy disks as storage medium I don’t usually backup my files – not until a bad incident. This is what happened:I had a school project to be stored and submitted on floppy drives. Once done, I stored it on my floppy disk then submitted it. Not knowingly the floppy disk that I submitted corrupted. Soon after I have got the greatest humiliation of my life: being made fun of the class for not making file backups.
]]>
I managed to learn through that episode, at the moment I always do multiple backups and practice maximum precautions when doing something important.
It makes me ponder why some website owners and online marketers don’t value their data security. In fact some owners don’t do scheduled website backups some do not even backup at all.
Consider this analogy: Real life institutions do know the importance of security, as they take expensive insurances, smoke detectors & fire sprinklers installations, security camera installments, infrastructure and wiring check as well as database backups etc.; The virtual market is really not that different. In an online business it is their data and user base that creates their success; I find it odd that some owners doesn’t take such measures and backup their website or database files when their source of income is always at the risk of failures and malicious attacks.
If you take a good look at the situation it is no different at all. A website owner needs to protect his data just as real life business owners need to protect their office documents. After all, the data is all that they have in contrast to real life business who has written records along with a database.
The website data files is all that you have to keep your web 2.0 website, business or blog running so why not backup? Every bit of effort you had put into your website is worth the backup. Your website and your community doesn’t deserve a disastrous breakdown so backup now to protect your data.
